First of all, let me just say that this particular cooling system sucks swamp water! Fortunately, a few of the members gave me some sound advice on how to fix the problem. Install a newer model radiator w/filler neck and cap, eliminate the surge tank from the system and install an over-flow bottle. My budget won't allow for the radiator I want just yet (2 row with aluminum tanks rather than plastic) so, I've decided to go a cheaper route as a temporary measure. I hate to have to drain the system twice but, that's life. The surge tank will still get eliminated and the over-flow bottle will still get installed but, I'll be installing a T-fitting in the upper radiator hose that will have a standard radiator cap and nipple for the over-flow tube. For now, I will simply connect the 2 surge tank hoses together but, I'll eventually want to eliminate the 2 metal pipes in those hoses. Considering the bends necessary in the hoses, I doubt just a straight piece of heater hose would work. Does anyone know if there is a pre-shaped hose for running that bypass?

also removing the clutch fan and installing the Ford Tarus electric fan does miracles. make sure to also upgrade your alt to the 130amp from a grand cherokee. you can buy Cheap 2 row radiators off ebay. i bought one for my cherokee awhile back. and also if your ac dont work then remove the condensor to help air flow pass through the radiator.
